Fox News - Partial government shutdown triggered as funding lapses amid border wall dispute
Joint Statement from Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi
"Regrettably, America has now entered a Trump Shutdown. Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House. But instead of honoring his responsibility to the American people, President Trump threw a temper tantrum and convinced House Republicans to push our nation into a destructive Trump Shutdown in the middle of the holiday season. President Trump has said more than 25 times that he wanted a shutdown and now he has gotten what he wanted.
"Democrats have offered Republicans multiple proposals to keep the government open, including one that already passed the Senate unanimously, and all of which include funding for strong, sensible, and effective border security – not the president's ineffective and expensive wall. If President Trump and Republicans choose to continue this Trump Shutdown, the new House Democratic majority will swiftly pass legislation to re-open government in January."

- Programs at Congaree NP will be canceled such as the Nature Discovery Walks, Big Tree Hikes, and Owl Prowls.
- The campground will remain open unless safety issues arrive, but you can forget about your reservation. The park won't be able to ensure your reserved site will be ready or available when you arrive. Additionally there will be no maintenance, janitor services, bathrooms, or showers to use. No new reservations can be made.
During the federal government shutdown, we will not monitor or update social media. Some park areas are accessible; however access may change without notice, and there are no NPS-provided services. Joshua Tree National Park - California
Desert Sun - Gates open and free at Joshua Tree National Park, but bring trash bags and toilet paper
- The gates are open but there was no staff at the West Entrance to welcome visitors, collect the vehicle entrance fee of $30, or distribute maps. Many vehicles entered without paying.
- A LA family at first-come, first-served Jumbo Rocks Campground was unaware of the shutdown. They worried the park would lose money without anyone collecting the entrance fees.
- Will Barrett, a Riverside resident also at Jumbo Rocks Campground, was disappointed he couldn't purchase a park sticker. He, like me, collects stickers from the National Parks.
- The restrooms remain open, but trash collection and maintenance services are on hold.
Gulf Islands National Seashore - Florida and Mississippi

Trump Tweets of the Day
I am in the White House, working hard. News reports concerning the Shutdown and Syria are mostly FAKE. We are negotiating with the Democrats on desperately needed Border Security (Gangs, Drugs, Human Trafficking & more) but it could be a long stay. On Syria, we were originally...— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 22, 2018
....going to be there for three months, and that was seven years ago - we never left. When I became President, ISIS was going wild. Now ISIS is largely defeated and other local countries, including Turkey, should be able to easily take care of whatever remains. We’re coming home!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 22, 2018
Will be having lunch in White House residence with large group concerning Border Security.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 22, 2018
The crisis of illegal activity at our Southern Border is real and will not stop until we build a great Steel Barrier or Wall. Let work begin!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 22, 2018
I won an election, said to be one of the greatest of all time, based on getting out of endless & costly foreign wars & also based on Strong Borders which will keep our Country safe. We fight for the borders of other countries, but we won’t fight for the borders of our own!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 22, 2018
Senate adjourns until December 27th.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 22, 2018
I will not be going to Florida because of the Shutdown - Staying in the White House! #MAGA— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 22, 2018
Brett McGurk, who I do not know, was appointed by President Obama in 2015. Was supposed to leave in February but he just resigned prior to leaving. Grandstander? The Fake News is making such a big deal about this nothing event!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 23, 2018
If anybody but your favorite President, Donald J. Trump, announced that, after decimating ISIS in Syria, we were going to bring our troops back home (happy & healthy), that person would be the most popular hero in America. With me, hit hard instead by the Fake News Media. Crazy!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 23, 2018
When President Obama ingloriously fired Jim Mattis, I gave him a second chance. Some thought I shouldn’t, I thought I should. Interesting relationship-but I also gave all of the resources that he never really had. Allies are very important-but not when they take advantage of U.S.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 23, 2018
